چکیده
In this paper, a DEM (Discrete Element Method) model is presented and a series of computer experiments is analyzed and compared to experimental validations. Also, the simulations are compared to experimental results. The model uses a 3 parameter contact force to calculate impact between particles and other object such as vanes. The components of the contact forces are typically modeled in terms of a scalar quantity measuring the material deformation at the contact point. In this paper we use the Hertz-Kono-Kuwabara model [Kuwabara ,1987] for the normal force component [Schäfer et al., 1996] experienced by the particle : ( ) ( ) 2 min 0, N N N N N k c δ δ δ = − + N n & . Testing an Online Spread Pattern Determination Sensor on a Broadcast Fertilizer Spreader
An alternative method for fertilizer spread pattern determination was developed based on predicting where individual fertilizer particles land on the ground, in contrast to the traditional method of collecting the particles in bins (ASAE Standard S341.2). A small broadcast granular fertilizer spreader (Lowery 300) was equipped with an optical sensor designed to measure the velocity and diameter...
متن کاملHigh Speed Stereovision Setup for Position and Motion Estimation of Fertilizer Particles Leaving a Centrifugal Spreader
A 3D imaging technique using a high speed binocular stereovision system was developed in combination with corresponding image processing algorithms for accurate determination of the parameters of particles leaving the spinning disks of centrifugal fertilizer spreaders. Validation of the stereo-matching algorithm using a virtual 3D stereovision simulator indicated an error of less than 2 pixels ...
متن کاملBack-calculation of mechanical parameters of shell and balls materials from discrete element method simulations
Discrete Element Method (DEM) is extensively used for mathematical modeling and simulating the behavior of discrete discs and discrete spheres in two and three dimensional space, respectively. Prediction of particles flow regime, power draw and kinetic energy for a laboratory or an industrial mill is possible by DEM simulation. In this article, a new approach was used to assess the main paramet...
متن کاملDiscrete Element Modeling of Dynamic Compaction with Different Tamping Condition
Dynamic Compaction (DC) is a common deep compaction method that is usually used for densification of coarse-grained soils. Although traditional continuum-based models such as the Finite Element Method can be successfully applied for assessment of stress distributions or deformations induced by DC, they are typically not adequate for capturing the grain scale mechanisms of soil behavior under im...
متن کاملAccuracy of Discrete Element Method Simulations: Rolling and Sliding Frictions Effects-Case study: Iron Ore Pellets
The discrete element method (DEM) has been used as a popular simulation method in order to verify the designs by visualizing how materials flow through complex equipment geometries. Although DEM simulation is a powerful design tool, finding a DEM model that includes all real material properties is not computationally feasible. In order to obtain more realistic results, particle energy loss du...
